„It’s Always Our O’Clock Somewhere“ von Marbl heißt der heutige Song des Tages bei Sounds. Die neue Single der israelischen Musikerin, die wir bereits 2018 an dieser Stellevorgestellt hatten, ist am 05.03-2021 erschienen. Die in Tel Aviv als Vocal Coach arbeitende Songwriterin hat das Lied kurz nach einer Trennung geschrieben, es diente ihr als eine „Erste-Hilfe-Maßnahme“ für ihr Herz. Nachdem ich ein paar Tage lang nicht das Klavier angerührt hatte, griff ich nach der Gitarre, die ich erst drei Monate zuvor als Instrument begonnen hatte zu lernen. Die Musik und die Texte sprudelten mit einer solchen Kraft aus mir heraus, der ich nicht widerstehen konnte. Es war wie eine Erste-Hilfe-Maßnahme für mein Herz. Der Song dreht sich um dieses Gefühl, einen Teil von dir zurückzulassen während dein gesunder Menschenverstand die Sprache des Herzens nicht verstehen und du dich deshalb nicht erleichtert fühlen kannst.“

After I reviewed her 2019 release, MARBL is back in 2021 with a brand new single that is an acoustic ballad gem. I don’t often push out single posts about just a single song, so you know this one is special. MARBL marries up a soft and high register with an acoustic guitar, piano and lovely harmonium styled organ to make you cry. ‘It’s Always Our O’Clock Somewhere’ is a song written after a break up. MARBL said it was like ‘first aid for the heart’ which is a descriptor I’ll be stealing for future reference!

After a breakup, MARBL turned the hurt and pain she was feeling into the guitar-driven folk single ‘It’s Always Out O’clock Somewhere’. Through an act of catharsis, the single talks about the feeling of leaving part of you behind when a relationship ends. This feeling is countered by common sense not understanding why you feel this way and leading you to an emotional limbo.

Taking this Israeli indie-folk band in new directions, this single trades the band’s traditional piano lead for a guitar to create a soundscape primed to heal every soul it touches. Led by Moria Or’s honey-soaked vocals, the band echo an eternal mantra of tenderness which is as much heartwarming as it is ambient. Growing through the soft additions of synths, it doesn't take long for the track to enchant every nerve of your body.

Lyrically, It’s Always Our O’clock Somewhere speaks of the frustration that comes with loss. Yet, the edge is softened by ethereal and breathy vocals accompanied by a hopeful acoustic guitar melody. The whole thing is an example of the power of understatement.
The video is a beautiful addition to the track. Telling a heart-warming (and heart-breaking) story of a child, an old man, and the sun. It’s fantastically edited and performed.

“I wrote this song right after a breakup. At first I tried not to write, it was too fresh and too painful. After not touching the piano for a few days, I picked up the guitar, which I had only started learning as an instrument three months earlier. The music and the lyrics gushed out of me with such force that I couldn´t resist. It was like first aid for my heart. The song is about this feeling of leaving a part of you behind while your common sense doesn´t understand the language of the heart and you can´t feel relieved because of it.”- MARBL

What made you decide to become a soloist?
Basically, I thought what job would grant me a fortune, all the ways led to becoming a musician
But I’m not a good liar, so I’ll just say that it came up naturally, when Jonathan Maimon, the previous producer of MARBL asked me to write an album, he produced it, and the next thing I remember is embarking on MARBL’s first tour in the UK.
